Benefits normally include:

An ongoing pension for your husband, wife, civil or nominated cohabiting partner

Death after retirement pension – for members who left prior to 1 April 2008

Plus Children’s pensions for your eligible children

These increase every year in line with the cost of living and are payable to your eligible children.  For further information on pensions payable to eligible children please use the following link:

If you left before 1 April 2008…

If you die within 5 years of retiring, your estate will receive a lump sum payment equal to 5 times your annual pension less any pension already paid.

Plus a Death Grant after retirement if …

you left before 1 April 2008

If you die within 5 years of retiring, your estate will receive a lump sum payment equal to 5 times your annual pension less any pension already paid.

you left on or after 1 April 2008

If you die within 10 years of retiring, your estate will receive a lump sum payment equal to 10 times your annual pension less any pension already paid. The lump sum payment does not include any pension due after age 75, therefore the lump sum payment will be lower if you retire within 10 years of your 75th birthday.
