Opt-out

If you start a job with an LGPS employer, you'll usually be signed up for the LGPS right away. But you can choose to opt out if you don't want to be a member.

Your pension benefits will be affected by how long you've been in the Scheme. Think carefully before opting out, as it could reduce your future income. Consider seeking advice from an independent financial advisor.

To opt out, complete the Opting Out of the LGPS form (available in forms) and return it to your employer's payroll department. They'll stop your contributions and inform us. Please note that you may be automatically re-enrolled in the future.

Alternatively, you could consider moving to the 50/50 section, where you pay half the normal contributions for half the normal pension. You'll still have full life and ill health cover. Contact your employer's payroll department for instructions on moving to 50/50. you can find out more here - www.cheshirepensionfund.org/cheshire-pensions/paying-in/mypension
